SpaceBrew Review: Dido Concert DVD

You know, I think Dido is way underrated as an artist. For the last few years I’ve thought Dido was the name of the band, and that Florian Cloud Armstrong was just the singer of Dido, the band. I didn’t realize Dido was a solo artist. Anyway, the point is that I think Dido is underrated. And I’m talking about Dido the band here.

Oh holy shit you can see right down her shirt whoaDido herself is a good singer, but I think it’s the band that makes her great. My perception is that Florian’s voice isn’t quite as strong as she is, though she puts as much into it as she can, trying to make it more powerful. You can see her just giving it everything she has, and her voice just kind of comes out. It’s quite sad actually, though not at the expense of quality. She sounds pretty awesome. I’d liken it to a car with a governor on the carb.

I bought H24 the Dido concert on DVD and we watched it last night, and I was happily impressed. Her band is tight and their music is – while pretty easy-listeningish – very well written. They successfully made techno music with conventional instruments. I found myself nodding appreciatively. And of course, this is all not to mention that which you should always expect from me… The physical appreciation. Yeah, she’s hot as the orange end of your cigarette. You should seriously check out the DVD. It’s a good concert, and only about seventy minutes long.

The bass player was probably the coolest dude on there. This big black dude wearing a basketball jersey – someone who totally doesn’t look like someone who would play bass for a Pop singer. He looked more like he should be backing up 50 Cent or some shit. But no, this dude was more into it than anyone else on the stage, short Dido. Running back and forth, getting into it – I really like seeing that shit. If you don’t believe in it while you’re on stage making it, why the hell am I gonna care about it?

The entire concert was worth watching. Very well produced and very good sound. She writes great music, pleasing to the soul. I’ll definitely be adding this to my list of concerts that I watch every year or so. Sit on the couch and pop open a Cold One and act like I’m there at the concert. Loud, live and dark.
